Kerry needs to follow the US model of more condo-style options for older people who wish to downsize.
That’s according to Independent councillor Maura Healy-Rae.
She tabled a motion at the full meeting of Kerry County Council urging for “right-sizing” housing schemes to be developed.
Cllr Healy-Rae says such options would cater for people who want to downsize their home and free up larger homes for families.
The council advised that it will consider developing a rightsizing policy for local authority houses as part of its works programme.
Cllr Maura Healy-Rae believes such developments offer opportunities for private home owners looking to downsize.
