Kerry must be a location for one of the permanent flood relief centres being proposed by Minister of State Kevin 'Boxer' Moran.
Junior Minister Moran, who has responsibility for flood relief, is bringing this proposal before Government.
Listowel councillor Tom Barry broadly welcomes the plan but says one of the centres needs to be based in this county along with smaller relief hubs.
Short-term measures to protect against flooding in North Kerry are still awaited.
Over 100 households and businesses in Listowel and Killocrim had to be evacuated after the River Feale burst its banks last November.
Cllr Barry says councillors received a report from engineering consultants on April 30th recommending particular short-term measures.
However, work has yet to start.
