Councillor says funding for maintenance works at Castleisland cemetery is incredibly positive step

Funding has been secured by Kerry County Council for maintenance and upgrade works at a Castleisland cemetery.

The information was provided in response to a motion from Fine Gael councillor Bobby O’Connell at the recent Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD meeting.

He urged the council to provide support for surface dressing, kerbing and drainage works at St John’s Cemetery.

In response, the council advised its Burial Ground Section has obtained funding for the works, and the upgrades are to be completed in the coming months.

Cllr O’Connell has confirmed that €40,000 in funds have been secured for the maintenance and upgrades of St John's Cemetery.

He praised the Castleisland graveyards association, and described the funding as an incredibly positive result and step, outlining that it's the most visited graveyard in the town and this'll vastly improve the grounds.

The motion was seconded by independent councillor, Charlie Farrelly.
