A Kerry county councillor says people in Killarney Municipal District (MD) are "literally begging" them to find accommodation.
Labour councillor Marie Moloney says people are getting notices to quit so that landlords can sell the properties, but then cannot find anywhere that accepts HAP.
The Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) scheme is a local authority-provided social housing support.
Cllr Moloney claimed that two more people had pleaded with her to "in the last two days" to find any letting agents or landlords who would accept HAP.
She was told that there were a total of 82 presentations to the council's Homeless Information Centre from the Killarney MD in 2025.
Of those, 26 clients or families were placed in emergency accommodation.
However, council management said that there were no recorded instances of clients becoming homeless due to landlords not accepting HAP.
Councillor Moloney disputed this, saying that landlords have "no interest" in renting to HAP recipients.
She insisted that it's "a major problem", leaving people with nowhere to go, so they have to present themselves as homeless.
She claimed that it was "about time" management realised this, and that it is next to impossible to find accommodation in the Killarney town area.
Kerry Independent Alliance councillor, John O'Donoghue also spoke on the matter, saying he suspects that if there was more affordable housing, fewer people would need to rely on social housing.
As in a previous meeting, he said that people are actively considering quitting their jobs so as to have a chance of finding a home.
