Councillor condemns social media comments and speculation surrounding Michael Gaine investigation

A Kenmare councillor is condemning social media speculation and comments surrounding the investigation into Michael Gaine.

The 56-year-old farmer was last seen six weeks ago today, buying phone credit in Whyte’s Centra, Kenmare.

Earlier this week, gardaí upgraded the case from a missing person to a homicide investigation.

Mike Gaine’s wife Janice and his sister Noreen O'Regan appeared in a video released by gardaí yesterday , urging anyone with information to come forward.

Independent councillor Dan McCarthy - who's a neighbour and friend of Mr Gaine - has condemned social media posts following on from the appeal.

He says some of the posts and allegations published online have been horrible.
