A Kerry Independent Alliance councillor has spoken of the 'scourge' of so-called vulture funds in Ireland.
Killarney councillor John O'Donoghue was reacting to the news that 34 people, including 15 children, are being evicted from their rental homes in the Loreto Chapel estate.
The landlord, the Cypriot property company, Xerico Ltd has begun the eviction process at each of the 14 houses it owns in the estate.
This process is entirely legal.
Councillor O'Donoghue says the practice of allowing single entities or individuals bulk buy huge swathes of our housing stock should be outlawed.
He also stated that "My heart goes out to those families in Loreto … who are now facing the brunt of this shortsighted policy".
The principal of Scoil Bhríde Loreto National School, Brian O'Sullivan, where 14 of the children are in attendance, says it will be very hard on his pupils:
