There are calls for councillors to be provided with a comprehensive update on the progress and plans for the Tralee Flood Relief Scheme.
Fianna Fáil councillor Anne O’Sullivan tabled a motion on the project at the recent Tralee Municipal District meeting.
She told the meeting certain projects were being delayed due to the flood review scheme and she felt there was a huge time-lag regarding this project.
Cllr Anne O’Sullivan sought a timeframe for the completion of the Flood Review Scheme, with a particular focus in the projects team’s assessment of the area.
In response, the council stated that a number of elements of stage 1 of this project are complete, including geotechnical, topographical and CCTV surveys.
The hydrology and hydraulics reports are also complete, and these will be published on the project website in due course.
Various environmental surveys have been completed, and others will continue this year.
The council says treatment of invasive alien plant species has been carried out for the past three years and this will also continue this year.
A draft options development report was received in November, and this is currently being reviewed.
The council says a further review of the emerging preferred options is also ongoing and once completed, a public consultation event will be arranged.
The aim of this is to provide an update on progress to date; to provide an opportunity to comment on the emerging scheme option, as well as outline the next steps of the scheme.
The council says it’s expected this event will take place in the first quarter of this year.
It also says the completion of stage 1 of the project, is currently scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.
