Kerry County Council has been urged to install solar compactor bins in Castleisland town.
It follows a motion at the recent Municipal District meeting from Fine Gael councillor, Bobby O’Connell.
In response the council advised solar bins are typically installed in larger towns with high footfall, while a litter review is ongoing in the town.
It added the bins in Castleisland are serviced three times a week and as required at the weekend.
Cllr O’Connell aired his disappointment with the answer, adding solar bins have many advantages, including waste collection data.
The motion was supported, while Cllr O’Connell requested the installation of such bins be rolled out in a pilot programme along with CCTV cameras, as tabled in a motion by Cllr Charlie Farrelly.
