Kerry County Council has been urged to examine opportunities to create youth hubs within the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD.
It follows a motion at the recent Municipal District meeting from independent councillor, Jackie Healy-Rae.
He outlined that areas like Firies are extremely lucky to have facilities at the GAA club, however, outside of sport, there’s very little for young people in the area.
The motion was seconded by Fine Gael councillor, Tommy Griffin, who says this is similar to Milltown and Castlemaine; and asked could these areas also be considered for new youth hubs.
In response, the council advised it will engage with local community groups to support youth recreation developments and explore funding sources.
