Elected councillors will write to the Health Minister and HSE requesting essential staffing and resources for a West Kerry hospital.
It follows motions by Sinn Féin councillor Robert Brosnan, and Fianna Fáil councillor Breandán Fitzgerald at the recent Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD meeting.
Cllr Brosnan said a recent gathering outside Ospidéal Pobail Corca Dhuibhne showed the wide support and need to open more long-term and respite beds in the facility.
He claimed that jobs aren’t being advertised locally and that the HSE need to do better in seeking Irish speaking staff.
Cllr Breandán Fitzgerald added it’s heartbreaking that people from Corca Dhuibhne have to go outside of the area to get a hospital bed.
The motions were seconded by MD Cathaoirleach, Cllr Fionnán Fitzgerald, who said all councillors in the LEA support it.
