Kerry County Council is to make a CPO this year to develop the greenway from Cockleshell to Spa outside Tralee.
Tralee Municipal District councillors approved the development of the 2km greenway in 2022.
The proposed three-metre-wide paved surface would link the existing path to Cockleshell, to the Spa for pedestrians and cyclists.

At this week’s Tralee MD meeting, Kerry County Council said it has not been able to reach negotiated agreements with landowners for the project yet.
The council said the land acquisition will likely need a compulsory purchase order, which will be made this year once a valuer is appointed.
Sinn Féin councillor Paul Daly, who requested the update on the project, said the sooner it’s completed, the better.
