Kerry County Council has reported a decrease in the number of accommodation refusals under Choice Based Letting.
Information provided at the recent full council meeting shows that refusal rates in the first five months of this year were at 9%.
This represents a reduction from 17% between January and October in 2023.
The figures were provided in response to a motion from independent councillor Jackie Healy-Rae, who says it’s a sign the system is working.
However, he believes the number is still concerning, adding every refusal means a home remains unoccupied and it delays the process for all on the waiting list.
