Cork boy who died near Conor Pass named

The Cork teenager who died following an accident near the Conor Pass yesterday has been named.

The 16-year-old boy has been named as Darragh Byrne, from Charleville, County Cork.

He had travelled to West Kerry with his parents, who became concerned when he left them to explore an area near a waterfall close to Pedlar’s Lake but did not return.

A multi-agency operation began when the alarm was raised after 3:30 yesterday afternoon, involving Dingle Coast Guard and the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team, as well as the Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter 115, the HSE and gardaí.

The boy’s grandmother Mary Fehilly died last November after being struck by a car that mounted the footpath in Charleville.
