Consultants are analysing of a section of the former Tralee and Dingle Light Railway in a bid to identify potential future uses for the railway corridor.
At the recent Tralee Municipal District meeting, Fine Gael councillor Angie Baily asked the council to explore the extension of the Tralee Bay Wetlands corridor as far as Blennerville taking in council-owned land.
She said this could enhance biodiversity, recreational amenity, flood mitigation, and active travel connectivity.
Kerry County Council says consultants are analysing a section of the railway from the rail corridor between the Aqua Dome in Tralee and Blennerville Windmill.
They are carrying out a condition survey and assessment of the existing assets, identifying potential future uses for the railway corridor and associated infrastructure, and reviewing how the corridor could connect with existing walking and cycling routes in the surrounding area.
