Conradh na Gaeilge is urging the Department of Education to apply an Irish language marks bonus for students sitting the Leaving Cert in 2026.
It follows calls by the Irish Second-Level Students' Union (ISSU) to ensure students within the Gaeltacht and Irish-speaking communities, are not disadvantaged in this year's Leaving Certificate.
The State Examinations Commission (SEC) says from 2027 the awarding of bonus marks for Irish will include all components of state exams.
Advocacy manager of Conradh na Gaeilge, John Prendergast, who’s from Tralee, is backing the ISSU’s calls.
He says while it’s a welcome move, students sitting their leaving cert this year must be included:
