A commemoration will take place this afternoon to mark the anniversary of the execution of Roger Casement.
Casement landed at Banna Strand on Good Friday in 1916 in a German submarine to take part in the Easter Rising, and was arrested at the nearby McKenna’s Fort.
He was imprisoned in London and convicted of treason at the Old Bailey, after which he was executed by hanging at Pentonville Prison on August 3rd, 1916.
A gathering will take place at 12 noon today at the Roger Casement memorial near Banna Strand to mark the 109th anniversary of his execution.
Historian and author Dr Tim Horgan will address the gathering, and all are welcome.
