The co-founder of an animal rescue charity is calling for a crackdown targeting on-road sulky racing.
Martina Kenny of My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue was responding to Tralee Gardaí and the Kerry Roads Policing Unit seizing three sulkies at Clogherbrien on Sunday evening.
They had received reports from the public of sulky racing on the R558 Tralee-Fenit road, causing traffic delays.
Ms Kenny fears illegal sulky racing will cause a serious traffic collision, leading to injuries or death, if it isn't confronted.
She claims tens of thousands of euro can be gambled on these races, and that injured horses can be left to die on the side of the road.
