Establishing links between Tralee and a Chinese province would be of benefit to both areas.
That’s according to Fine Gael councillor Angie Baily, who tabled a motion at the recent Tralee Municipal District meeting.
Cllr Angie Baily asked what progress has been made on the cultural and educational links agreed in 2012 and the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2013 between Kerry and Zhejiang province in China.
Cllr Baily says she feels it’s huge important to progress this given current global markets.
She said Tralee is a tourist town and she felt establishing tourism, educational and cultural links would be of benefit, and she feels this is the market the town needs to depend on.
She also stated she’d be contacted by an area in China that was interested in establishing such a link.
Kerry County Council as part of the Work Force Plan, it has included for a Twinning/ EU Liaison/ International Affairs Officer to develop and advance economic and cultural links with foreign countries.
The council stated the progression of links with China will form part of this role.
Subject to approval, it says it’s anticipated that the recruitment process of this resource will commence in the latter end of 2026.
In the interim, the Community Section are coordinating matters in this area.
