A Killarney councillor claims trees are so tall in one area of the town they would be hit by low-flying aircraft.

Independent Cllr Donal Grady told the Killarney Municipal District meeting some elected members are waiting two years to get trees cut and called on the MD to employ its own full-time tree surgeon.

Cllr Grady said the trees in the Ballyspillane area are so high a low-flying aircraft would hit them.

Council management said the MD annually employs tree surgeons through public procurement and given the low level of work and its specialised nature there is no requirement for a full-time position.
