Catherine Connolly suggests presidential election opponent has not distanced herself from smear campaign comments

Catherine Connolly has suggested that her Presidential election opponent has not distanced herself from comments about a smear campaign.

She was speaking about comments made by Ivan Yates, in which he suggested Fine Gael should “smear the bejaysus” out of Ms Connolly.

The independent TD from Galway claims Heather Humphreys has continued to make false statements with regards to her campaign team.

Speaking on Kerry Today Ms Connolly says the Fine Gael candidate has not distanced herself from the smear campaign comments.

Meanwhile, Catherine Connolly says she doesn’t seeing the Irish language causing difficulty in having a United Ireland.

She is on the campaign trail in Kerry today, and will launch her Irish language initiative in the Ghaeltacht this afternoon.

When asked about the Irish language being a divisive subject in the North, she rejected that it causes division.
