A Castleisland man has been sentenced to five months in prison for criminal damage.
37-year-old John Paul O’Brien of 25 An Caisleán Mór, Castleisland appeared before Judge David Waters recently.
He pleaded guilty to one charge in relation to an incident last October.
John Paul O’Brien appeared in person before Tralee District Court in relation to the charge of criminal damage.
Sergeant Chris Manton outlined that on the evening of October 27th 2024, Gardaí received a call from a woman in a property at An Caisleán Mór Castleisland.
The court heard that she was in her sitting room when she heard shouting from outside, upon looking outside she saw the accused, who subsequently began throwing rocks at the property.
Upon arrival Gardaí found Mr O’Brien had smashed glass of a window of the house.
Defence solicitor Pat Mann told the court that the accused went through a difficult period at the time.
He outlined that his client had come out of a relationship and was dealing with acute distress and addiction issues.
Mr Mann asked the judge to be as lenient as possible, noting Mr O’Brien has not sought bail in relation to the matter, made a guilty plea, and has made great progress through courses and school attendance while in prison.
Judge Waters noted aggravating and mitigating factors in the case, and sentenced him to five months in prison.
