A campaign of rolling 24-hour fasts in solidarity with the people of Palestine has been underway for a year.
Among the groups involved in The Hunger for Justice: Gaza campaign are the Kerry branch of the Irish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, Kerry Healthcare Workers for Palestine, and Kerry Friends of Palestine.
Today marks the 365th consecutive day of fasting.
So far, the campaign has raised over €180,000 for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and other initiatives in Gaza.
A campaign spokesperson says several Kerry volunteers fasted for 48 or even 72 hours.
Volunteers in Kerry dedicated fasts to the memories of individuals killed in Palestine, sharing tributes via social media.
Luke Myers, of the Kerry Branch of the Irish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, expressed gratitude for the participants across Kerry.
Dr Geraldine Rochford of Kerry Healthcare Workers for Palestine stated, “It was a great honour to be part of such a worthwhile campaign – raising much-needed funds for vital food, water, and medical supplies for those who need them in Palestine.”
