Kerry County Council is being called on to survey the physical structure and safety of all piers throughout the county as soon as possible this year.
Councillor Michael Leane proposed the motion at the recent full council meeting.
He asserted that it’s very important that the walls and structures of all peers are safe.
Councillor Leane said Dromatoor Pier in Ballyheigue was hit by Storm Agnes in 1973, and that the wall of the pier was knocked off.
He said it is now a danger, especially during fine summer weather when young children dive from the pier.
Cllr Leane said it’s very important that the walls and the structures of all peers in Kerry are safe.
He was told that the council will examine the current condition of piers throughout the county.
Cllr Leane also thanked the council for descaling and cleaning piers for the Christmas period, adding “we don’t want accidents or anyone driving down and slipping off on the moss”.
