There are calls for a memorial be erected at the site of the execution wall in the old Ballymullen jail.
Tralee municipal district (MD) is to contact the developers of a housing development on the historic grounds and request that a memorial be erected on the location of the execution wall.
Councillor Deirdre Ferris told the recent Tralee MD meeting that most of the executions in Tralee during the War of Independence took place there.
She said “the last thing we want to see is a complete whitewashing of our history”, and that having a monument would at least acknowledge our history.
This was seconded by Mayor Terry O’Brien.
