Kerry should become involved in the “2027 Year of the Normans – People of Europe” initiative.
That’s according to Claudia Kohler, education and outreach officer with Kerry County Museum.
2027 marks the millennium of the birth of William the Conqueror, England’s first Norman king; the Normans took control of Ireland a century later, following the conquest of 1169.
Last week, cabinet approved Heritage Minister James Browne’s proposal to participate in the European cultural initiative.
Ms Kohler says there is huge Norman history across the Kingdom, including towns founded, surnames and architecture.
She believes the celebration represents a great opportunity for Kerry County Museum to refresh and update its 15th century Geraldine Experience:
