Several submissions were made by members of the public calling on Kerry County Council to create development and the potential for jobs in North Kerry, with many saying the area had been neglected for years.

A number referenced the Shannon Estuary and called for the development of this area, stating it could create much-needed jobs locally.

Others called on the council to provide an alternative to the Shannon LNG project, which would also create the same level of employment.

The issue of North Kerry’s declining population was also highlighted; many of those who made submissions believe creating jobs would attract younger people to the area and also encourage those living locally to remain and work there.

The need to better promote North Kerry as a tourist destination also featured prominently in the issues papers, submitted to the council by the public.

The areas many attractions and walkways were noted, and North Kerry was also highlighted as an ideal location for writer and artists retreats during the winter months.
