Calls are being made for the See Something Say Something scheme to be rolled out in Listowel.
Sinn Féin councillor Tom Barry raised the matter at the recent Listowel Municipal District meeting.
He said the scheme, where the public can anonymously text Gardaí about incidents of concern, has been a huge success in Tralee and it needs to be rolled out in Listowel.
Cllr Barry said it would give the community in Listowel the opportunity to help in the policing of their own area.
Supporting the motion for the extension of the anonymous service, Cllr Mike Kennelly said he was aware of a person who had been victimised after reporting an incident.
The council is to write to Kerry's Chief Garda Superintendent Eileen Foster on the matter.
