Cahersiveen is to lead the national celebrations commemorating the 250th anniversary of Daniel O'Connell's birth this August.
The statesman, from Derrynane near Cahersiveen was born on 6th August 1775, and went on to lead the movement for Catholic emancipation.
The Catholic Emancipation Act, officially the Roman Catholic Relief Act, granted political and civil rights to Catholics in Ireland and Great Britain.
The three-day O'Connell 250 festival in Cahersiveen features a wide programme of major cultural, historical, and civic events.
These include recitals of O'Connell's orations in the Old Abbey, mass in the Penal Chapel by the Bishop of Kerry Ray Browne, and the unveiling of blue plaques.
The programme also includes a parade through the town, a street party, a Gavan Ring concert, and a flotilla down the River Fertha, led by the Liberator boat.
