Beach bye-laws, which restrict dogs and horses from accessing parts of Kerry's Blue Flag beaches, are back in operation from today.

Under these bye laws, animals will be limited from accessing the Blue Flag areas of these beaches from 11am to 7pm from today (June 1st) until September 15th.

This applies on Rossbeigh, Ballybunion South, Ballybunion North, Ballyheigue, Banna, Fenit, Maherbeg, Derrynane, White Strand, Ballinskelligs, Ventry and Inch beaches.

However, the restriction will operate from 12pm to 6pm at Kells, due to the size of the beach.

The animals will be able to access other parts of the beaches that don't fall under the Blue Flag zone, via a throughway at most beaches; markers will be provided to guide dog owners to these areas.

These restrictions won't apply to guide dogs and assistance dogs.
