The Bishop of Kerry has paid tribute to the late Sr Stanislaus Kennedy, saying the people are rightly proud of what she achieved.
Sr Stan passed away yesterday aged 86.
She was originally from Lispole in West Kerry and she established Focus Ireland, the Immigrant Council of Ireland, and the Young Social Innovators.
The Bishop of Kerry Ray Browne says he wished to express his sympathy to all who mourn the death of Sr Stan.
He says the people of Kerry are rightly proud of Sr Stan and of all the organisations that she founded in her lifetime.
Bishop Browne says throughout her more than sixty years as a Religious Sister of Charity, the needs of people living in poverty in Ireland was always her greatest concern.
He says he hopes many Irish people of all ages will continue to be inspired to walk in Sr Stan’s footsteps.
Meanwhile, the Munster Technological University has also extended its sympathy to St Stan’s family, colleagues and friends.
A spokesperson for MTU says they are saddened to learn of her passing, saying her voice and leadership changed the national conversation on homelessness, poverty and social justice.
MTU says Sr Stan leaves behind a legacy of compassion, courage and impact that will endure for generations.
