Birdwatchers from overseas travelling to Kerry to see rare redhead duck

Birdwatchers from across the UK and further afield are travelling to Kerry to see an exceptionally rare redhead duck from North America.

This female redhead was first seen on Saturday in Cromane, and she remains there today.

It’s the first time this rare duck has been spotted in Kerry, and it’s only been spotted twice in Ireland.

These ducks breed in Alaska and winter in warmer climates like Mexico, Cuba and Southern Texas.

She’s attracting large crowds, with people even travelling here from Scotland and other parts of the UK especially to see her.

Field ornithologist and Tralee resident Ed Carty says it’s extremely rare that this female redhead duck arrived in Kerry:
