The family of a Kerry teenager who took her own life while in the care of CAMHS did not want to take the HSE to court, but felt they had no other choice.
That’s according to Cian O'Carroll of Cian O'Carroll Solicitors, who represented the family of the 17-year-old girl.
He says due to the intransigence of the legal position taken by the HSE, the family were left with no alternative but to bring proceedings.
The case was settled in the High Court last week, while a letter from the HSE was read out apologising for failing in the teenager's care.
The court previously heard that attempts had been made by the girl's mother and the girl herself to get help from the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, prior to her suicide.
Mr O’Carroll says urgent action is needed to address the CAMHS service.
