Ballinskelligs priest welcomes decision to move the remains of Bishop Eamonn Casey

Ballinskelligs' parish priest, Fr Patsy Lynch has welcomed the decision by the Diocese of Galway to remove the remains of the late Bishop Eamonn Casey from a crypt at Galway Cathedral.

Fr Lynch had previously made headlines when he ripped up a picture of his ordination by Bishop Casey following revelations in a TV documentary that he had been the subject of child abuse allegations, including some made by his niece Patricia O'Donovan.

Bishop Casey was not convicted of any sexual crimes during his lifetime, but was removed from public ministry by the Vatican in 2017.

Fr Lynch said that he was he was disappointed that the decision to remove the remains from the crypt had taken a year but that he hoped it would help bring healing.
