A West Kerry school has been named the Marine Institute’s 2026 National Explorers Ocean Champions.
The students of Aughacasla National School made a documentary film called "A Nursery Beneath the Waves" as part of their marine science project.
They showcased Tralee Bay as a "living nursery" and one of the most ecologically important marine environments in Ireland and Europe.
The children explored the seashore and discovered egg cases from the elusive White Skate, known as "mermaids' purses".
Attending the award ceremony, Kerry TD and Minister for Children Norma Foley said the pupils have developed important skills that they will use for a lifetime.
