Japanese pharmaceutical giant Astellas says it’s important for them to give back to local communities.
Its head of pharma manufacturing in Tralee, Owen Moore, was speaking after Astellas was announced as a new sponsor for the Rose of Tralee International Festival.
He says the announcement is also a positive means of publicising the company and its recruitment drive.
The construction of its €330 million campus has created 530 construction jobs, with that set to rise to 600 in the coming weeks, while 120 jobs will be created when the facility is operational.
Mr Moore says the Kerry Technology Park facility is still on track to open at the end of 2027 or start of 2028:
Meanwhile, Astellas is monitoring and analysing the trends in worldwide tariffs.
On Tuesday, the White House confirmed EU pharma exports to the US will be subject to a 15 percent tariff.
Owen Moore says the ongoing situation was discussed at a company shareholder meeting in Japan recently.
He stated the company would like to refrain from speculating on any potential impacts.
