Astellas’ expansion recognised as being among Europe’s top investment projects

Astellas’ expansion in Kerry and Dublin has been recognised as being among Europe’s top investment projects.

Last year, the global pharmaceutical company announced it was to invest a further €129 million in its operations in this county and in the capital.

The Japanese multinational is building a €330 million facility in Tralee and has a plant in Killorglin since the 1990s.

The inaugural fDi Intelligence Investment Impact Awards recognise foreign direct investment projects across Europe that have the highest potential to drive productivity while also contributing to sustainability and inclusion.

FDI experts shortlisted the top projects in Europe.

Astellas Pharma in Kerry made number seven in the category for announced mid-sized projects.

This is for investment projects ranging from $50m to $500m.

Head of Astellas Tralee Owen Moore said being recognised as one of Europe’s top mid-sized investment projects is a testament to the innovation and excellence that drives the Astellas Tralee site.

He said the achievement reflects Astellas’ commitment to advanced manufacturing and thanked IDA Ireland for its continued support to expand, and create high-value jobs.

US medical devices company Dexcom’s plan for a new manufacturing operation in Athenry took first place in the mid-sized projects category.

Analog Devices’ plan for Limerick was ranked third in the mega projects category for investments of more than $500m.
