Members of a Kerry charity are among the group attending the final afternoon tea reception hosted by President Michael D Higgins.
Today is the last such event hosted by President Higgins and his wife Sabina as his term in office ends.
Jean Campbell and Wendy O’Connor of Animal Help Net Kerry are among some 100 people who are being honoured at Áras an Uachtaráin.
Over the past 14 years, President and Mrs Higgins have welcomed more than 15,000 people annually to the Áras.
Also honoured is a group of scientists from the College of Science and Engineering in University of Galway who earlier this year, collaborating with astronomers in Leiden University and the University of Arizona, discovered a new planet using the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in the Atacama Desert in Chile.
They have called the new planet, which is some 430 light years away, ‘WISPIT 2b’.
