An Post says it's working to find a new contractor for Ardfert Post Office.
Last year, the Ardfert Community Council took over the running of the post office on a temporary basis.
However, this arrangement is coming to an end on December 15th.
Over 100 people attended a public meeting in the village last night in a bid to save the post office from closure.
The meeting heard how important Ardfert Post Office is to the local community.
Joyce Russell was one of the organisers of the public meeting, and she says the post office is very busy and serves Ardfert, as well as Fenit, Tralee and Kilmoyley.
Ms Russell says it’s not just an essential service, but it also it plays a vital role in the social and economic life of the village.
She explains what will happen next:
An Post says it is currently looking for a contractor to provide post office service to the people of Ardfert.
It has advertised for a new contractor on three occasions, and An Post says there has been some interest but no formal application as of yet.
An Post says it wishes to maintain its presence in Ardfert and it is working find to find a new contractor.
However, it says if it’s unable to appoint a new contractor, it faces the possibility of moving the Ardfert services to another post office in the broader catchment area.
