An American tourist has been remanded in custody charged with €46,000 worth of criminal damage in Kenmare.
59-year-old Rodney Menolascina of SW McKinley Street, Gresham, Oregon USA, appeared before Killarney District Court today, facing four charges.
It’s alleged that on Sunday May 10th Rodney Menolascina entered Quills Woolen Market and damaged 28 items of clothing.
He faces two charges relating to the alleged incident, and it's estimated almost €28,000 worth of criminal damage was caused.
The 59-year-old also faces two charges in relation to an alleged incident on the same date, at the Lansdowne Arms, where it's alleged thousands of euro worth of criminal damage was caused.
He appeared before Killarney District Court this morning, where evidence of arrest, charge and caution was heard.
Representing the accused, solicitor Pat Mann told the court that the American tourist is on holidays in the county, having arrived in Ireland on May 1st.
Mr Mann told the judge that his client is a married man, with no previous convictions.
Sergeant Chris Manton said no formal directions are available from the DPP at this time.
Mr Menolascina was remanded in custody, to appear in person before Tralee District Court on May 13th, for DPP directions.
