Almost 150 fixed charge notices were issued in Kerry over a five-month period for non-compliant number plates.
The figures were provided by Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan following a query from Fine Gael TD Emer Currie.
Non-compliant or non-conforming Irish registration plates include those with custom fonts, incorrect sizes, colours or spacing; no EU flag or IRL identifier, or plates that are designed to defeat ANPR, automatic number plate recognition, systems.
The figures provided by Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan cover from October 2025 to February this year and they show 146 fined were issued in Kerry.
In October last year there were ten fixed charge notices issued in this county, while that rose to 60 in November last year.
Last December, 22 fixed charge notices were issued for non-compliant number plates in Kerry, while a further 17 were issued in January and 37 fines were issued in February.
Nationally, between last October and February, there were over 5,000 fixed charge notices issued for non-compliant number plates.
