Fine Gael councillors brought a joint emergency motion to the full meeting of Kerry County Council today calling for the GAA ensure all intercounty games to be available on free-to-air tv for 2027.

Cllr Aoife Kennelly said if the games continue not to be shown it will weaken the sports in Kerry.

She said young people won't have the chance to watch the matches or be inspired to play the game, which will have a knock on effect at a local level.

The motion was supported by all councillors in the chamber.

Cllr Johnny Healy-Rae stated the games need to be visible and that the GAA has gone back in time, adding a different solution is needed.

Meanwhile, Cllr Niall Botty O'Callaghan described the situation as frustrating and said the GAA needs to think outside the box and include TG4 when broadcasting championship matches.
