An additional €1.2 million has been allocated to Kerry roads under the Local Improvement Scheme.
This is in addition to over €1 million which was previously allocated to the county under the LIS programme for 2025, bringing the total allocation for Kerry this year to more than €2.2 million.
The funding has been welcomed by Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae, Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley, Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill, Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae and Fine Gael Senator Mike Kennelly.
The focus of the Local Improvement Scheme is upgrading rural laneways and non-public roads which provide access to homes, farms and outdoor amenities, and are not normally maintained by local authorities.
It will fund works carried out this year on such roads across Kerry.
This year’s total funding of more than €2.2 million is among the highest allocations nationally.
An additional €14 million has been announced under the scheme nationally, bringing the total to €30 million available this year.
This represents the highest annual funding level since the scheme was re-introduced.
