There’s been an 11% drop in the number of unaccompanied learner drivers issued with fixed charge notices in Kerry in a year.
That’s according to figures presented to Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú.
They show in 2024, 283 learner drivers were issued with fixed charge notices by Gardaí in Kerry for driving unaccompanied.
That fell to 250 last year, a drop of 11.7%.
MEP Ní Mhurchú says when an inexperienced driver gets behind the wheel of a car without any supervision, they are endangering themselves and other road users.
However, she says these figures are encouraging as they show that learner drivers are getting the message.
