800m of problematic water mains will be replaced in Tralee.
Ageing, problematic cast iron mains will be replaced in the High Street and Strand Street areas of the town by Kerry County Council, on behalf of Irish Water.
The works will be carried out along High Street from the Day Place/Bridge Street junction to the Strand Street/O'Rahilly Villas junction.
They're scheduled to take 11 weeks, beginning this coming Wednesday, May 19th.
The mains replacement project is being carried out as part of Irish Water's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Irish Water says traffic management, including some diversions, will be required at times during the works.
However, local access and access to the Bons Secours Hospital will remain at all times.
Irish Water adds customers may experience short-term water shut offs, but they will be given at least 48 hours' notice prior to any planned shut offs.
Networks Programmes Regional Lead for Irish Water, Steven Blennerhassett, says these works will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages in the area.
Irish Water says affected customers have been notified, but people can phone the utility on 1850 278 278 if they have questions about the mains replacement project.
