There were 80 refusals of offers of social housing by applicants on the housing list in Kerry in 2024.
That's according to figures from the Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government.
Of the 80 refusals of offers for social housing in Kerry, 60 of these were refusals of a first offer, while a further 20 were rejections of a second offer.
The figures were provided by housing minister Deputy James Browne following a query from Fianna Fáil TD John Lahart.
Nationwide, there were 934 refusals of offers of social housing in 2024, of which 693 were first refusals and 241 were second refusals.
The highest number of refusals were in Cork City, at 121, followed by Galway county, at 94.
Minister Browne remarked that the refusal of social housing offers can have an impact on administrative processes and prolong tenancies.
He stated that Choice Based Letting allows for applicants to bid on the homes that they would like to live in, resulting in a decrease in the number of refusals for local authorities who implement this model.
Choice based letting has been in place by Kerry County Council since November 2024, and resulted in halving the number of refusals in the first year of being inplemented.
