There’s been a 75% increase in the number of new electric vehicles sold in Kerry so far this year.
Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show that to the end of May, 221 electric vehicles have been registered in this county.
In total this year, 1,608 new cars have been sold in Kerry – this is a very slight increase from the same time last year.
New car sales for the month of May alone were at 74, also very similar to the same month last year.
Petrol cars remain the most popular engine type in new cars sold in Kerry this year, at 462 – that’s equal to around 29% of the market share for the year.
New petrol electric hybrid cars are closing the gap in the number of sales, now making up around 23% of the market share of sales in Kerry.
Around one fifth of new cars sold in Kerry this year were diesel, making it the third most popular engine type, but the number of diesel cars sold in Kerry is down 30% on the same time last year.
Sales of new electric cars in Kerry have gone up by over 75% in the space of a year, and petrol/plug-in electric hybrid sales have also strongly increased.
The gap between sales of new automatic and new manual cars in Kerry is growing; sales of new automatics went up by 20%, and sales of new manuals went down 23%.
Almost two thirds of new cars sold in Kerry this year have been automatics.
Toyota continues to be the most popular brand of new cars sold in Kerry, and the Hyundai Tucson jeep is the most popular individual model of new car sold in the county so far this year.
