More than 70 adults were in homeless accommodation in Kerry last month.
The according to the Department of Housing’s monthly homelessness report for March.
The report shows at the end of March, more than 17,500 people were accessing emergency accommodation nationally, a record high.
Figures from the Department of Housing show 17,517 people were homeless across Ireland at the end of March, including over 5,500 (5,571) children.
In Kerry 74 people were in emergency accommodation at the end last month.
This represents an increase of over 57% compared to the same period last year, when 47 people were homeless in the county
In the South-West region, which covers Kerry and Cork, there were there were 137 families accessing emergency accommodation at the end of March.
The report shows that 252 children were homeless in the region.
861 adults were accessing emergency accommodation in Kerry and Cork last month, 64% (554) of which were male, and 36% (307) were female.
537 (62%) of the homeless adults in the South-West region were Irish, 124 (14%) were either British or EU citizens, while 200 (23%) were non-EU citizens.
