65% of children in Kerry being assessed for disability needs are not getting an assessment within six months.
That’s according to HSE figures in today’s Irish Independent provided by Sinn Fein TD, Pa Daly.
The figures show that between April and June, 17 assessments of need were completed in the county.
Of these, six, or 35% were within the legal six-month timeframe, as set out under the Disability Act 2005.
Nationally, the data shows more than 16,500 are overdue an assessment this year, while the average waiting time is 25 months.
Deputy Daly says the figures show the crisis is widespread and he believes the government is incapable of solving it.
