Over seven per cent (7.4%) of adults accessing emergency accommodation in the south-west were in Kerry.
That’s according to the Department of Housing’s Monthly Homelessness Report for July.
For the first time ever, there are now more than 5,000 children registered as homeless nationwide.
In total, a record 16,058 people were living in emergency accommodation during the reference week between 21st and 27th July.
The report states that in the south-west, 716 adults were homeless during the July reference week; 53 of those were in Kerry.
103 families in Kerry and Cork accessed emergency accommodation that week, including 221 children.
Within Kerry and Cork, two thirds (65.5% / 469) of the homeless adults were male; while, nearly four-in-five (77.37% / 554) were single.
In the south west, nearly 60 per cent (58.5%) of homeless adults were between the ages of 25 and 44, while a quarter (24.72%) were between 45 and 64.
Over 64 per cent (64.39%) of adults in the region in emergency accommodation were Irish.
