The HSE South West Community Work Department marks 50 years of service this year.
A newly published report has outlined the department's role in championing the role of community-based organisations, as well as its contributions to significant improvements in community health outcomes.
The department has also contributed to the development of health initiatives and the facilitation of access to critical health services for vulnerable populations.
The Department also plays a vital role in addressing cultural and logistical challenges.
HSE Area Manager for Cork South and West, Priscilla Lynch said:
“The Community Work Department is a shining example of what small HSE teams can achieve when they work for and within communities. The teams in Cork and Kerry have made a significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of communities across both our counties, and I look forward to that continuing.”
Principal Community Worker, Caroline Doyle said:
“We in HSE Community Work are encouraged by the findings of this report. As well as marking the significant contribution of our team and our partners over the last 50 years, it gives us a platform to plan for the next 50.”
She added:
“Our local teams in Cork and Kerry will work with partners over the next year to hold local events in both counties, highlighting the significant engagement by HSE Community Work with communities over the last 50 years.”
